Get it covered!
Ok so you have found the car that feels right for you the next step is insurance cover. Yes it’s drain but also a necessity, it’s against the law to drive it unless you have an adequate insurance policy.
As well as considerations as to type of cover also important is whether you have a history of not making claims - you can benefit from a "no claims bonus", which will make your insurance policy cheaper. You should also investigate the possibility of taking out what is known as a Protected Discount Policy, for a small additional cost you can insure your no claims bonus, typically that means that you are entitled to make one or two claims within a three to five year period without any impact on your no claims discount.
We would also recommend a GAP (Guaranteed Asset Protection) policy which pays out a lump sum if your car is a complete write off. Especially if you have financed your car through a loan, if the car is a write off then usually the amount outstanding on the loan is likely to be much more than the value of the car, a GAP policy makes up the difference. Remember a standard insurance policy will normally only pay out a sum of what they think the car is worth, so even if you haven't financed your car through a loan, the cost of replacing your car with a similar new model is likely to be more than the standard insurance policy will pay out.
There is quite a lot of information that you will need to get a car insurance quote, so be prepared.......more info
Remember the more expensive your car the more the insurance will cost - but the good news is that insurance companies do offer cheaper insurance for women (and it also helps if you are middle-aged!)
If you have a teenage son or daughter, helping them onto the motoring ladder is often a more realistic goal than helping them onto the property ladder....more info
